protein

If you’re looking for a quick protein boost, look no further than your blender! Research shows the best protein sources for avoiding heart disease, high cholesterol, and even diabetes are plant-based protein choices, and many of these choices make ideal smoothie ingredients. For a healthy protein boost, try including plant-based protein powders, raw nuts or nut butters, and superfood seeds — all of which make smoothies deliciously creamy, as well as satisfying and healing.

Navitas Naturals Hemp Seeds, Hemp Powder and Goldenberries are each protein superstars. Just 2 tablespoons of hemp seeds contain 8 grams of complete protein, plus healthy omega 3 fatty acids and plentiful minerals like iron. Hemp protein powder is made by first grinding raw hemp seeds, then extracting the oil away leaving a hemp “cake” that is a more concentrated form of protein. This resulting hemp powder provides a whopping 16 grams per 3 tablespoons – or in other words, the equivalent to over two eggs! Though most fruits are not protein sources, goldenberries are in fact composed of 16% protein by weight, providing a sweet, antioxidant-full, and low fat way to sneak in an extra few grams.

Additional protein foods include cashews, Brazil nuts, almond butter, mulberries, goji berries, spinach, kale, pumpkin seeds, spirulina, chia, and plant-based protein powders, like rice protein, pea protein, or soy.
